Oct 4, 2021. #1. Hi all. The patient is a 2014 Jetta TDI w/ 126k mi. It's pure stock with the Dieselgate nerf. The DPF light came on as I was driving from Kansas City to St. Louis, so there were several hours of highway speed driving for the regen to occur. The engine light is on (not flashing) and that is due to a persistent P2015 (Intake
T6 Pro. 9 Jul 2023. #15. Had my dpf removed about 6 weeks ago. Reason, was seeing a lot of reports of failures and damaged engines. Cost about £400 labour and blanking off. Result is quicker, and fuel economy up from 30-32 to 39-45. So will recover the cost in about 2 years at my annual mileage.
Fuel is fairly cheap here in the states, compared to most other places. And your realistic 5% wont make up the difference for a long time. 10 year or less depending on how much you drive and the lead foot effect of nodding your car wont help. You will have a most nasty smelling exhaust and a slightly better sounding car.
The 3.0 TDI VW Phaeton also did not have a DPF present until around 2005 /6, at the point it was offered in the Touareg (all 3.0tdi Touaregs have a DPF, the early 2.5TDI models don’t). The best, most reliable VW Diesel Engines are by far the 130bhp PD engine, and very early 90bhp – 130bhp TDI engines, but these are getting rare.

According to my local VW dealership, if I were to do it myself, I'd be savings quite a few more $$ than you have quoted above - they gave me an estimate of $4500-$5000 to R&R the DPF. Thanks guys for all of your insight and great advice to this - it does make it a little easier.
The distance between regens can vary greatly on driving conditions and engine health, anything between 150-400 miles is probably normal. There should be two soot values, calculated and measured. It's normal from them to differ as I don't believe calculated takes into account passive regeneration. They are generally less important assuming they
Vw's are fine as they have static lifetime dpf's which have liners in the exhaust, unlike fords peugeots citroens Volvo etc which use additives designed to raise the temperatures of the exhaust gasses, these required regular maintenance and regular expensive dealer top ups If the dpf starts to soot up you'll get a light on the dash.
